We cherish memory of outstanding fellow-townsmen and donator of Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve!

25 августа 2017 года в Санкт-Петербурге на сотом году жизни скончался наш выдающийся земляк Пидемский Борис Михайлович. Он родился 7 января 1918 года в селе Петропавловское (Чарозеро) Кирилловского уезда. В 1936 году окончил медицинский техникум в Череповце. В армии служил военфельдшером в пограничных и железнодорожных войсках. Участвовал в войне с Финляндией в 1939‒1940 годах. В марте 1941 года был направлен служить в органы военной контрразведки Ленинградского военного округа. Во время блокады Ленинграда участвовал в контрразведывательных и боевых операциях, в том числе на легендарном «Невском пятачке». Был дважды ранен, контужен. За героизм и мужество был удостоен орденов Отечественной войны, Красной Звезды, медалей «За отвагу», «За боевые заслуги», «За оборону Ленинграда» и многих других.

Our eminent fellow-townsman Boris Mikhaylovich Pidemsky died in St. Petersburg on August 25, 2017. He was 99 years old. He was born in the village of Petropavlovskoye (Charozero) in the Kirillov district on January 7, 1918. He studied at the Secondary Medical School in Cherepovets until 1936. During his service in the army, he was a military medical attendant in the border and railway troops. He participated in the Winter War in 1939-1940. In March 1941, he was sent to serve in the military security agencies of the Leningrad Military District. During the Siege of Leningrad, Pidemsky took part in counterintelligence operations and warfare, including the legendary “Nevsky Pyatachok”. He was wounded twice and shell-shocked. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, the Order of the Red Star, the Medals “For Courage”, “For Battle Merit”, “For the Defence of Leningrad” and a lot of others for heroism and valour.

B.M. Pidemsky graduated from the Department of History in Leningrad State University in 1957. He was appointed director of the Leningrad branch of the “Soviet Artist” Publishing House in 1965. In 1969, he founded the Aurora Publishing House that was to issue fine art books in foreign languages and was at the head of it within 30 years. He was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples and the title “Honoured Cultural Worker of RSFSR” for successful publishing activities. B.M. Pidemsky was not only a publisher, but also a talented writer. His tough books about the war “In the Late Autumn of 1941” and “To the Sound of Metronome” received favourable reviews of readers.

B.M. Pidemsky made indispensable contribution to the study and popularization of the historical heritage of the native region. He published books, booklets, postcards about the most significant monuments of the Belozersk region; constantly maintained close friendly ties to poets Sergey Orlov and Sergey Vikulov; was a member of the Regional Public Origination “Vologda Friendly Association in St. Petersburg”. Coming to Kirillov, Boris Mikhaylovich Pidemsky handed over a part of photographs, postcards and documents from the family archive that were connected with the history of our region to the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve.

The museum employees extend their sincere condolences to the relatives of B.M. Pidemsky. We cherish the memory of the wonderful person, historian, writer, publisher and donator of the museum. His fellow-townsmen will remember him.
