Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve continues collaborating with Orthodox Church

On August 12, on the 880th anniversary of the foundation of Totma, the Episcopal celebration of the Divine Liturgy was held in the most beautiful church of this ancient town – the Church of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem. The feast service was headed by Metropolitan of Vologda and Kirillov Ignaty. His assistance priests were Bishop of Artsyz Viktor, vicar of the Odessa Diocese; Bishop of Veliky Ustiug and Totma Tarasy and some clergymen of the Vologda Metropole.

Preparing for this event, monk-priest Feodosy (Pisarev), Father Superior of the bishop’s yard “Spaso-Sumorin Monastery” in Totma, asked Mikhail Sharomazov, director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, to help them to make printed copies of icons for a temporary iconostasis in the Church of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem.

Father Feodosy who lived in the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery before knows the rich iconography of the St. Kirill’s Monastery. He chose the icons from the Church of Transfiguration of Christ for the new iconostasis because they were wonderful examples of Old Russian art.

The copies of the icons were made in the shortest time possible and were placed in the iconostasis of the Church of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem. This event is a good example of cooperation between the Orthodox Church and the museum community.

This material was prepared with the assistance of vologda-mitropolia.ru and employees of the bishop’s yard “Spaso-Sumorin Monastery” in Totma.

The Deisis tier of the Church of Transfiguration of Christ and other icons that are wonderful examples of Old Russian art have been chosen for the iconostasis of the Church of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem.
