Winter festival in Ferapontovo

By tradition, the event was opened with a festive snow-tube race. First “Tsar Sledge” glided down from the snowy slopes of Lake Borodaevskoye and then kids and adults joined it using their sledges and snow saucers.

Various activities were arranged near the walls of the Ferapontov Monastery during the whole holiday: playgrounds, inflatable amusement rides, gliding on Lake Borodaevskoye on the inflatable “Tsar Sledge” fastened to a snow-tractor, football, “gigantic” hockey, a trampoline and a merry-go-round

The most spectacular sports contests of “Winter Amusements” were a fancy-dress race around the monastery (its participants were to cover 700 metres) and storming of a snow fortress.

Everybody had a chance to glide on the inflatable “Tsar Sledge” along Lake Borodaevskoye, to admire decorated Russian sighthounds and their awards and medals, to visit permanent and temporary exhibitions and to see unique master-pieces of history and culture in the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes.

“Winter” characters of the event – the Hare, the Snowman and the Hussar – were especially popular with the guests. They were pleased to have their pictures taken with them.

The most active participants and winners of the sports contests, relays and prizes-for-all lottery were awarded during the holiday and the youngest contestants of festive amusements on the playgrounds got sweet prizes.

When the event came to an end, people didn’t want to leave and continued sliding and dancing to the cheerful music. They enjoyed sharply white snow and fresh air that was especially good in Ferapontovo in winter!
