Visitors could make fresco in Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes
“Night of Arts” in the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes pleased visitors not only with exhibitions, but also interesting master-classes!
“Night of Arts” is an annual All-Russian action the main goals of which are to attract attention of the public, in particular children and youth, to the museum resources, to demonstrate the potential of modern museums and to excite interest in culture. Every year more and more people try to participate in this action and thus to join to history and culture.
The Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes was also involved in this cultural event. It opened its doors for visitors in the evening for the sixth year running.
The All-Russian action “Night of Arts” was held in Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes on November 4, 2017. Its subject was the art of wall-painting and oil painting.
This night museum action has two goals: to present new opportunities and potential of the museum and new exhibits from the holdings; to attract new visitors that could combine their leisure with a chance to go to the museum at an unusual time. First of all, the matter concerns the youth.
The master-class “Apprentices of Dionisy” was delivered in the administrative building of the museum. Its participants learnt about the outstanding icon-painter of the 15th – early 16th century Dionisy, fresco painting and the frescoes in the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral created by Dionisy in 1502. Besides, they could make a fresco themselves according to the ancient technique.
This museum lesson gives people a chance to make a small fresco following the principles, technological stages and artistic methods of the master of the turn of the 15th-16th centuries. Of course, it is impossible to reconstruct the fresco painting process completely; we have to keep certain conditionality in the choice of painting methods and materials. But as a result of this museum event, visitors learn in practice how Dionisy worked and create a souvenir about it. This time the museum guests painted an image of the angel from the credence altar of the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral under the direction of O.V. Silina. She told them about symbolism of the angel’s attributes and artistic peculiarities of the image. During the action “Night of Arts”, the master-class “Apprentices of Dionisy” was delivered twice for two groups of visitors.
In spite of the fact that the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes is located in a small settlement that certainly has an impact on the number of night visitors, the museum employees are always glad to present the museum, its renovated exhibitions and their creative abilities at an unusual time.
The action “Night of Arts” culminated in the master-class in oil painting that was delivered by Elena Gudkova, employee of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes, member of the Moscow Union of Artists. Its participants were told about the general principles of oil painting and painted an oil study “Last Days of Autumn”.
Connoisseurs, creative people and visitors who were not indifferent to museum activity joined in the action. We are glad to see all visitors in our museum. We look forward to seeing you again and prepare new interesting events for you.
The permanent exhibitions of the museum were open till 20:00 and everybody could visit them free of charge. Guests from Kirillov, Vologda, Moscow and St. Petersburg used this opportunity and admired the Dionisy’s frescoes in the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral and learnt about the history of the monastery in the Church of St. Martinian and the Refectory.
