November 3, 2016

“Night of Arts” began in the Museum of Town and District History in the evening on November 3. The exhibition “Ladies’ Articles” was opened there. I.A. Gostinshchikova, head of the Permanent and Temporary Exhibition Department, conducted a tour of the new display. In the interior of the rooms of the dwelling house of the late 19th – early 20th centuries, visitors could see articles that women of those centuries used: pieces of clothing such as dresses, kerchiefs, hats and shoes, imitation jewelry, bags made of beads, boxes for cosmetics, bottles for perfumery products and so on. Most of the exhibited items belonged to Tatiana Vasilievna Tserkovnitskaya who donated and handed them over to the museum under her will.  Besides, the display presents articles from the holdings of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve and private collections of local residents. Some exhibits reminded the visitors of the bygone Soviet epoch and inspired them with youth recollections.

The concert of the Chamber Orchestra of the Vologda Regional Philharmonic Society named after V.A. Gavrilin took place in the parvis of the Refectory that evening. Thanks to the meeting with these artists, spectators could get to the atmosphere of the early 19th century, the time of dancing parties, theater and fancy-dress balls. They listened to the music of A. Vivaldi, P.I. Tchaikovsky, J. Brahms, and A.I. Khachaturian.

The first composition of the program was Vivaldi’s concerto for two flutes and stings. Then they also performed the following music pieces: “The Four Seasons” (“Autumn”, “Winter”, “Spring” and “Summer”) and a concerto in A minor for bassoon and strings of A. Vivaldi; “Serenade” of V.A. Mozart and “Elegy” of P.I. Tchaikovsky.

“Today we are visiting you and we are very glad. We are giving a concert in the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery and it is a very significant event for us. We would like to establish a good tradition because all presented compositions and everything that we usually perform at the concerts are connected with classical music, with that music that is usually dedicated to God. It is very important for us as each significant composer during many centuries considered that he created not a momentary composition, but something that would serve people within centuries. In the building where we are now, this concept of historical memory, holiness, importance for every person and spirituality unites everything, art and culture”, pointed out Alexander Loskutov, artistic director, conductor and soloist of the orchestra, Honoured Artist of the RF.
