Meeting of restoration council

Four restored articles were returned to the museum from the Vologda’s branch of the All-Russian Art Research and Restoration Centre named after Academician I.E. Grabar: a ribbon for lampion, a tabernacle, an icon “Crucifixion” and a chemise.

The ribbon for lampion was handed over to the museum from the Goritsy Convent of the Resurrection in 1932. It was in a very bad state. The restorers strengthened and filled up the lost bugles. The tabernacle dating back to the 19th century was completely restored. Both works of art will be presented in the museum exhibitions soon. The icon “Crucifixion” comes from the Ferapontov Monastery, it was handed over to the museum in the 1920s. During restoration, they unveiled vivid painting of the late 17th century created by professional masters.

Museum restorers S.M. Smirnova, A.A. Borodulina, N.V. Petukhov and A.S. Rubtsov introduced their reports on the completion of restoration of 11 items from the following collections: “Metal”, “Old Russian Painting”, “Folk Textile” and Wood”.
