The exhibition of Valery Antonov “Mediterranean Plein Air” will be open in the conference hall of the museum till January 21, 2018.

This year’s final exhibition in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve was a presentation of Valery Antonov’s pictures. The artist who moved from Vologda to Greece 15 years ago doesn’t forget the places that became native for him. It was exactly in our regional capital where he was the main artist. Working for the benefit of the Vologda’s branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, Valery Antonov held exhibitions of local painters both in Vologda and Moscow.

I.A. Smirnov, advisor to the director general of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, said at the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Mediterranean Plein Air” in the conference hall, “He came to our district many times together with the artists of the Vologda region, together with this wife Nadezhda whose works you can also see today here. Every visit to Kirillov is a separate cycle of Valery Antonov’s creative activity. This artist is so many-sided that his works are of unfailing interest. If local landscapes and even the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery could be seen in his pictures earlier, now sunny Greece is depicted in them!”

The artist heard a lot of good words at the opening ceremony of his display in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve. One of the guests was Lyudmila Kharlapenkova, museum employee, admirer of Valery Antonov’s creative work and his long-standing friend. She quoted Nikolay Gogol, “Nikolay Vasilievich said that the more common a subject was, the higher a poet should be to derive something extraordinary from it. Well, Valery’s works illustrate these words! He has such a reverential attitude to the nature! Have you noticed? He is a very delicate lyrist! His landscapes are a poetic portrait of the nature! It is not for nothing that he studied at a very good academic school of painting in Yaroslavl!”

Flowers, letters of gratitude and souvenirs were given to the creator of the exhibited works at the opening ceremony of his display in the museum-reserve. But, the main surprise for Valery Antonov was the silver medal of the Union of Russian Artists “Spirituality. Traditions. Workmanship”. Nikolay Mishusta, chairman of the board of the Vologda Regional Branch of the All-Russian Creative Public Organization “Union of Russian Artists”, awarded V.P. Antonov in the presence of the administration of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, members of the union, museum employees and the public of the town. It is one of the prestigious medals of the Russian professional art association. Valery Antonov received it for his great work. As N.I. Mishusta said, “He is the artist of our organization all the way through!”

The exhibition of Valery Antonov “Mediterranean Plein Air” will be open in the conference hall of the museum till late January, 2018. Don’t miss a chance to admire summer landscapes of the warm country.
