Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve tightens links with Northern capital!

13 December 2017

Mikhail Sharomazov, director general of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, held a number of important events, including signing of the quadripartite mutually beneficial cooperation agreement in the cultural and tourist fields and doing lecturing in the main halls of the Northern capital, within the framework of the International Cultural Forum in St. Petersburg.

The week of the Kirillo-Belozersky Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve was held in the city of the Neva River within the framework of the Sixth St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum.

Mikhail Sharomazov, director general of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, delivered three lectures marking the 620th anniversary of the foundation of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery and the 590th anniversary of the death of St. Kirill Belozersky in the main halls of St. Petersburg. He told about the saint’s life and the unique extant iconostasis of the 15th century from the Dormition Cathedral (58 icons out of 60 have come down to us) in the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, the lecture hall of the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library where the event was broadcast to all libraries of the country.

They announced the execution of a mutually beneficial cooperation agreement in the sphere of culture and tourism between the Krasnenkaya Rechka Municipal Okrug (St. Petersburg), the Creative Union “International Craft Guild of Masters” (St. Petersburg), the Kirillov Municipal District and the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Culture “Kirillo-Belozersky Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve” in the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library in the presence of officials and designated persons.

O.A. Vasiliev, Deputy Governor of the Vologda region, and K.K. Yerzin, representative of the Krasnenkaya Rechka Municipal Okrug, underlined the importance of execution of such a document. S.V. Usov, head of the Kirillov Municipal District, and Tatiana Kovsha, President of the International Craft Guild of Masters, expressed their opinion about this event with the help of a video conference call.

O.A. Vasiliev noted, “A significant event is being celebrated in the Vologda region this year – the 620th anniversary of the foundation of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. Its history comprises a large number of human fates and stored knowledge. Now it is not just the collection that was significant for the Vologda region once. It is of worldwide importance! Nowadays when there is both a functional monastery and a museum on the grounds of one of the largest monastery complexes in the European part of Russia, such presentations are very significant both for the region and the Russian culture in general. The event is not trivial.

It is symbolic that we are giving our presentation within the framework of the International Cultural Forum. We are especially pleased that we are doing it on the grounds of our reliable partner - the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library. The cooperation with it is quite active this year. Along with the lecture of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve and a multimedia photo display about the museum, the exhibition of our region is open here. As you remember, the Vologda region is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its establishment this year”.

It is interesting that our region is being presented along with the Leningrad region that celebrates the 90th anniversary of its establishment this year.

The Deputy Governor of the Vologda region hopes that “thanks to such events about the cultural achievements of our northern region, people from all over the country will learn more and more about the Vologda region with the help of the Presidential Library”.

During the video conference, O.A. Vasiliev invited all libraries of Russia, cultural centres and museum associations to establish mutually advantageous cooperation.

The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve took a considerable step forward in the development of cultural links with St. Petersburg. The very next day after the lecture in the Presidential Library, it signed a quadripartite cooperation agreement with the Municipal okrug in St. Petersburg, the International Craft Guild of Masters and the Kirillov Municipal District. This event took place in the Russian Museum of Ethnography, on the business ground of the Sixth St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum.

Mikhail Sharomazov, director general of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, pointed out that this agreement would connect not only the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, but also the Kirillov district with the cultural capital, “Cooperation agreements are framework documents that establish development directions. In this case, this quadripartite agreement involves almost 400 individual entrepreneurs and organizations working in the Krasnenkaya Rechka Municipal Okrug of St. Petersburg. As for the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, it significantly expands capabilities of our collaboration and involvement of specialists and organizations of St. Petersburg to the museum problems.

Besides, one of the parties to the agreement was the Creative Union “International Craft Guild of Masters”. Cooperation with it gives us opportunities for both development of exhibition work and expansion of souvenir trade.

The Kirillov Municipal District that is also a party to the agreement will also have new opportunities. We cannot complain and say that we lack attention of the district authorities to the problems of the museum. They have paid a lot of attention and have participated in our work within the last time. And this agreement gives a chance for further work aimed at the attraction of visitors to our museum and the district”.

S.V. Usov, head of the Kirillov Municipal District, stated willingness to share experience, to develop and to strengthen all-round ties. He underlined that all participants would benefit implementing the quadripartite agreement.

Tatiana Kovsha, President of the International Craft Guild of Masters, is sure, “The future is successful if it is nourished from clean sources of spiritual history – the Vologda land and the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve that are rich in traditions are invigorating springs of power. Cooperation is cross-fertilization. We try to invent interesting regional programs understanding that work for the sake of appearance in a federal museum is unacceptable. Participation in the projects of the museum-reserve for artists and craftsmen is a serious progress and estimation of the achieved level in their creative activity”.

Promotion of the cultural site of worldwide importance located in the Vologda region – the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve – will be continued in St. Petersburg. The museum has been already presented not only within the framework of the International Cultural Forum, but also in one of the largest Russian bookselling networks “Bukvoed”. Lyudmila Lupushor, deputy director general of development and exhibition work in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, told about the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery and local saints who had become prototypes of the main character of the book “Laurus” written by Yevgeny Vodolazkin, Russian literary critic and writer. He also took part in the meeting.

Introduction of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve in St. Petersburg will go on. A multimedia photo display of the famous photographer Maxim Yevdokimov marking the 620th anniversary of the foundation of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery will be open at the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library till early December.

A.V. Arkhippov, head of the Development Department in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve and organizer of the events of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve in St. Petersburg, considers, “Today our main task is to attract attention of the capital cities to our museum. We want to show residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg and all citizens of the country that the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve takes rightful place among such famous museums as the Hermitage, the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery. Our history and the formed collection only confirm it. To achieve this goal, we should focus our attention and efforts on educational work and popularization of our historical and cultural monument. It will yield tangible dividends to the museum, the Kirillov district and the Vologda region in general in the near future. Unfortunately the situation is the following nowadays: the overwhelming majority of the citizens of our country don’t know either the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery or the Ferapontov Monastery or our heritage. You can spend money on the tourism development in the region, but we won’t make great progress until we begin to invest in educational programs”.
