“The Greek Traveled” through Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve!

06 December 2017

The documentary “The Greek Travelled” was shot in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve.

The actor from Greece came to the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve on the coldest day of April when snowflakes whirled in the air without a break. “It is 20 degrees above zero in Greece now! Everybody is swimming!” said Dimitris Georgiadis looking around the outskirts covered not with the first snow. Dimitris is a real person, the main character of the documentaries under the title “Ehal Greka (The Greek Travelled)”. The 30-year-old man is active, interesting and persevering, he speaks fluent Russian though he is a real Greek! “I learnt Russian in the Russian University of Theatre Arts (GITIS) studying at the Department of General Stage Management”, admitted Dimitris Georgiadis.

This sociable person is an actor of the theatre in Epidaurus (Greece) that seats up to 12000 people, the Vakhtangov Theatre (Moscow), a member of the Greek choir and he is constantly on the move. “I come to Moscow to tread the boards once in two months. Now we are going to tour Russia presenting “Oedipus the King”. So I spend half of the time in Greece and half - in Russia”, said the actor.

Dimitris Georgiadis leaves his native Corfu especially for the shooting of the film “The Greek Travelled”. “It is the second cycle. The first one was about “The Golden Ring of Russia”. Now we are working on “Silver Necklace”, he explained.

The real Greek with a small film crew travels in our country by car. “The first stop was in Vologda, and now we have reached you. We have come to see your beauty. You could hardly find such vast expanse that can be seen from the monastery bell-tower. First we made a tour of the museum with a restorer, but then we wanted to learn about the monks’ life in the monastery, so we asked Father Nikolay to tell about their life”, said Dimitris Georgiadis visiting the Refectory of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve.

Dimitris told about his trips to the villages of the Vologda region, noted that he had been to Vologda, Sheksna (with a stress on the first syllable), Gryazovets, Leushino, the Goritsy Convent, and now he was in the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. He summed up, “I have understood within this time that a person who lives in the north performs a kind of a feat. Here… It is… So cold! Glacial weather is my friend! We don’t part with it! Joking aside, people are more soft-hearted and kinder here. They are candid!”

The film crew continued shooting in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve in absolute silence. This interesting high-quality material will be presented on two channels – OTR and Russia-K - later on. We will learn later what the slightly Russified Greek has said to the camera. But right now we will learn what we thought contemplating our beauties. Dimitris Georgiadis shared his impressions about the visit to our region, “I have come to Kirillov for the first, but not the last time! I have just phoned my fiancée and told her that we should certainly come there again. She says that we will be on honeymoon in Argentina (our wedding is scheduled for May 6). I don’t mind. But nevertheless we will come back here! It is the second place that we are to visit together! You could hardly find such a beautiful place with such a positive attitude to life! I envy local people. I can’t only understand their phrase “got used to” when they say that wolves and bears go to their settlements...”

Now the team of the project “The Greek Travelled” has set out according to the route mapped by Peter the Great in his time. The next destinations will be Vologda, Archangelsk and the White Sea. The film crew promised to return to Kirillov and to continue shooting in August.
