Exhibition of Vologda’s fine art restorer Olga Sokolova was opened in People’s House

The opening ceremony took place on September 24. It is the first exhibition of O.A. Sokolova staged in the museum of Kirillov.

M.N. Sharomazov, director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, greeted all guests.

“The museums and churches located in the Vologda region are the sphere of Olga Sokolova’s work. It is difficult to find a spot in the Vologda region where she hasn’t worked. Restorers are people of invisible profession, but it would be impossible to hold exhibitions and to open museums without their activity. Olga Alexandrovna is a person who gives us joy and admiration from the meeting with real art”, he noted.

In her turn, O.A. Sokolova expressed her gratitude to M.N. Sharomazov, director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, and the museum associations of Vologda, Totma, Cherepovets, Belozersk and Ustyuzhna the collections of which were presented at the exhibition.

“The long-standing idea has been implemented today: presentation of icons from the collection of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve originating from the Church of St. Prophet Elijah in Belozersk like a whole iconostasis. We have managed to do it thanks to the employees of the Permanent and Temporary Exhibition Department headed by Lyudmila Lupushor, deputy director of development and exhibition work. This display has given us a chance to show rich museum collections and our professional potential and to prove that such projects are in-demand”, underlined O.A. Sokolova,

Over 70 icons of the 16th-19th centuries painted by the artists of Vologda are exhibited in the People’s House. Visiting the display, you will be able to compare them and to see unique iconography. Besides, the display presents signed and dated articles of the 15th-16th centuries from the private collections of A.D. Lipnitsky and A.V. Gulko, drawings and copies-reconstructions of icons from the author’s workshop. You will be able to see the work of O.A. Sokolova and her colleagues restoring wall-painting in the churches of the Vologda region in the banners and scientific papers telling about each restored work of art in the showcases.

Olga Sokolova has made a large contribution to preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of our region. The icons are the national treasure left by our ancestors. Thanks to the invaluable talent and professionalism of O.A. Sokolova, these restored monuments have come down to us and future generations.
