Exhibition “Miniature Lacquer Painting” in Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve

June 3, 2016

Over 50 unique author’s articles created by the masters from Palekh are presented for visitors. These items come from the private collection of Sergey and Anatoly Rudnev. You can see souvenir articles: caskets, boxes, Easter eggs, trays, cigarette cases decorated with miniature lacquer painting.

Palekh is the name of the ancient Russian village located not far from Moscow in the Ivanovo region where local residents did art painting from olden times, even before the reign of Peter the Great. The Palekh school of painting differs in the use of dark background by the artists. Bright colours of patterns seem to be illuminated against it.

The exhibited souvenirs have peculiar colours of folk fairy tales and epic poems. Visitors will be interested in literary and historical subjects, folklore and everyday scene, floral compositions and landscapes reproduced with the help of fine miniature painting.

The lace articles of Vologda naturally complement this display.

The exhibition “Miniature Lacquer Painting” will be open on the ground floor of the Refectory till August 10, 2016.

Opening hours: every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Admission is free.
