The exhibition will be open in the conference hall of the museum from October 1 to December 15.
Opening hours: from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Monday and Tuesday.
Museum employees, friends, childhood playmates from Kirillov, relatives from Cherepovets, grandchildren of A.F. Pozdnyakov attended the opening ceremony. I.A. Smirnov, deputy director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, welcomed all guests and noted that he personally knew A.F. Pozdnyakov. “We lived nearby with Alexander Fyodorovich in Pobedy Street in Kirillov. In 1984, my colleagues and I collected materials about the history of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its foundation. I was certainly interested in the life and activity of all museum directors. Communicating with Alexander Fyodorovich, I learnt that he had also worked as a museum director for more than 10 years. We began to meet and to speak more often and thus we made friends. In those years, A.F. Pozdnyakov was an interior designer in the Cultural Centre and later became a constant guest in our museum. The position of a director in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve is only one side of his activity. Many people in Kirillov know him as an artist. He went around many interesting places with his sketch-book. He was interested in the outskirts of our town, the Sheksna River (later the Volga-Baltic Sea Waterway), the village of Goritsy. I knew A.F. Pozdnyakov as a modest, hardworking, wonderful person, a family man who brought up two sons. His grandchildren have already grown up and I hope they will inherit the helm”, he said.
Emilia Ivanovna Sysoeva, resident of Kirillov, veteran and homefront worker, knew A.F. Pozdnyakov from childhood. They grew together and were friends for many years. At the opening ceremony of the display, she told the guests about his childhood, youth, about that time when Shurka (as his friends called him) only started to become interested in painting and drew with a writing pencil in his sketch-book.
L.N. Pozdnyakova (the elder son’s wife) expressed gratitude to the employees of the Scientific Department and the Permanent and Temporary Exhibition Department who participated in the staging of the exhibition. Besides, Lidia Nikolaevna suggested that several other works of A.F. Pozdnyakov should be handed over to the museum-reserve.
Visiting this display, you can not only look thorough the pages of life of the talented artist, but also see a wonderful collection of his works created both during the study in the Yaroslavl Art School and at a mature age.
The exhibition “Life and Creative Work of Alexander Fyodorovich Pozdnyakov” presents documents, photographs, personal things and art works from the artist’s personal archive. Some studies and drawings given to the museum by the artist’s son A.A. Pozdnyakov in 2009 are exhibited for the first time.
The landscapes of A.F. Pozdnyakov are interesting: the views of Kirillov, some neighbouring villages of Talitsy, flooded settlements on the Uloma River. You can feel great love for his native region and Motherland in them.
A.F. Pozdnyakov went down in history of the Kirillov district as one of wonderful directors of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve. Being at the head of the museum, he carried out active exhibition, research, publishing and restoration work. He was in correspondence with scholars, historians, researchers, in particular, with A.N. Kirpichnikov who wrote a wonderful book about the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. Documentary materials of their correspondence are kept in the museum. The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve carefully cherishes and will cherish the memory of this outstanding person transmitting it to the next generations of museum experts.
