All-Russian action “Night of Arts” was held in Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes

23 November 2017

«Ночь искусств» – это ежегодная всероссийская акция, основными целями которой являются привлечение внимания общественности, в особенности детей и молодёжи, к музейным ресурсам, демонстрация потенциала современных музеев и пробуждение интереса к культуре. С каждым годом все больше и больше людей стремятся присоединиться к этой акции и тем самым приобщиться к истории и культуре.

November 3, 2016

One of the central topics of “Night of Arts” organized in the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes on November 3, 2016, was the Year of Greece in Russia. The master-class in calligraphy “Secrets of Greek Alphabet” marking this event was delivered in the administrative building of the museum. Its participants were told about the origin of the Greek alphabet that had become the base for the Cyrillic alphabet and also learnt to write in uncial Greek letters that were used to create the most ancient almost full text of the Bible – the famous Codex Sinaiticus of the 4th century.

Besides, the museum employees staged the display “History of One Exhibit” in the parvis of the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral. The concertina (squeeze-box) from the holdings of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes was presented to visitors this time.

It was handed over to the museum together with a part of materials from the family archive of the Brilliantovs in 1996 by Galina Leonidovna Chicherina (the town of Likhoslavl in the Tver region). This musical instrument belonged to her mother - Agnia Alexeevna Brilliantova (Tertsieva). Agnia Alexeevna was a daughter of Alexey Mikhaylovich Brilliantov (1826-1896) – a district doctor in the town of Verkhoyansk of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) who returned to his native region being almost blind after 25 years of his service in the north.

A concertina is a free-reed musical instrument, like different accordions and the harmonica. It has a bellows and buttons typically on both ends of it. When pressed, the buttons travel in the same direction as the bellows, unlike accordion buttons, which travel perpendicularly to the bellows. The concertina was invented in the first quarter of the 19th century by Sir Charles Wheatstone, who patented it in London in 1829.

The action “Night of Arts 2016” culminated in the master-class in oil and acrylic painting that was delivered by Elena Gudkova, employee of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes, member of the Moscow Union of Artists. Its participants painted an oil study “Architecture of the Ferapontov Monastery”.

The permanent exhibitions of the museum were open till 21:00 and everybody could visit them free of charge. Guests used this opportunity and admired the Dionisy’s frescoes in the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral and learnt about the history of the monastery in the Church of St. Martinian.

We are glad to see all visitors in our museum! We look forward to seeing you again and prepare new interesting events for you!
